nora’s first birthday

I may earn monetary or product compensation from companies mentioned in this post. All words and ideas are my own; thank you for supporting BFD and making it possible for me to provide you new and exciting content and workouts.

I been a mom for almost seven years and have planned a total of fourteen birthday’s, between all three of my boys. The last few years of parties have been small family gatherings, (which are not very small with our size of family!), but so fun and special. This birthday party was a little different.

We waited until birth to find out the gender of our fourth child. With three boys already, I really didn’t want to find out the gender until birth. Nora was hands down the very best surprise ever!

Born November 14, 2017 7lbs 3oz of pure perfection!

Although obviously I have known that I have a daughter for a year now, at times I still feel like it is a dream. Up until her birthday this week, Nora drank out of blue sippy cups and played with toy cars. After her party I now have so much pink creeping into our house, and it makes me so happy!

I am fully aware that when a child has a first birthday party it is one hundred percent for the parents…or in our family, just for me! I enjoyed every second of this party as well as the planning that went into it, however, I don’t love the cleanup after a party, which is why we decided to have it at the clubhouse in our community.

I chose a girly floral theme with natural rustic elements, such as dollar eucalyptus, baby’s breath and wood crates.

A good friend of mine made Nora’s smash cake and it was absolutely perfect! The dessert table was made possible by friends and family, who all handmade special treats, cupcakes, cake balls or picked up old fashioned donuts from our local donut shop.

For dinner we had famous Squeeze Burger sliders made by the burger master himself, my husband Jon!

I am going to go off on a little rabbit trail for a second to give you a little history on these burgers. I am originally from Southern California and went to College at Azusa Pacific University, where I met my husband Jon, who was from Northern California, where we currently reside.

We got married in April of 2011 after finishing college, and we were living in Oceanside (in Southern CA). We found out in early June of 2011 that we were pregnant with our first son. I was working at a local restaurant/brewery (not a career) in Carlsbad, and Jon was searching for a job, having been laid off from an online start-up company. Jon’s dad also worked for the same company, and he was laid off shortly after Jon.

Thinking out-of-the-box, his parents decided to open a burger restaurant in Tracy, California (which isn’t totally random… but kind of). If you haven’t ever heard of the Squeeze Burger, it was formally known as the “Squeeze Inn”, and was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network.

Jon’s brother married the daughter of the owners of the original Squeeze Inn, (she is my amazing sister-in-law), so there was a little connection there. Jon’s parents had no previous restaurant experience, (just a lot of management and life experience), so they asked us if we would move to Northern California and help get the restaurant open and running.

Jon has a Master of Business, and I had restaurant management experience. It was pretty much an answer to prayer, as Jon needed a job and even though moving away from my parents and Southern California, where I had always lived would be a big change for me, but we would still be near family. (Side note: my parents moved up also from Oceanside, and my brother and his family moved from Kauai, HI to be altogether).

OK, now back to Nora’s birthday party. All of that to say, Jon “professionally” cooked cheese burgers (if that is even a real thing, haha) for five years at the Squeeze Burger, before making quite the career change by going into Law Enforcement.

So this past year we missed eating Jon’s burgers often. They really can’t be made properly on a regular stove top, so we just had to purchase this Blackstone Griddle for our backyard. Jon used it to make sliders for Nora’s party and they were a huge hit!

We had an amazing time celebrating with family, friends and food. Everyone that attended loves our little sweet Nora, and she had a great time, even if she may not remember. She will have fabulous pictures, thanks to our budding photographer and friend Ally. And her mama enjoyed planning and celebrating her baby girl turning one year old (insert tears!)
